Working with F.Dumoulin as Vfx Supervisor , I was in charge of the Art Direction , I was in charge of the 3d Concept Design of the Intruder X982 at Rodeofx

Asset modeling was then finished by M.Phaneuf and a closeup version also done at ILM for the market sequence

During 20years ...In the serie of comics ( Valerian and Laureline from JC MEZIERES) , shapes have changed a lot over the years... from round ( 70 s ) to square rounded shapes ( in the 80s) ...it was a challenge to keep the essence of the ship and make it believable in a movie in 2017

I used lots of references from the original comic book from Jean Claude Mezieres
I Know P.Garcia was also involved in Pre-production

And YES , he reallly looks like the Millenium falcon .. i know ... but The Astroship XB982 first appeared in 1967 and may have directly inspired the Millennium Falcon ... ;)

Valerian and Laureline Comic influenced other media : traces of its concepts, storylines and designs can be found in science fiction films such as Star Wars and The Fifth Element.
